Your source for solutions

Distribution Automation (DA) provides great business value to utilities, boosting the ROI on AMI investments up to 5x. Landis+Gyr has been providing DA solutions for over 25 years – leading the market with an end-to-end solution for distribution grid management and monitoring. Our DA capabilities are built on our secure, highly reliable and scalable Gridstream Connect network, which:

  • Enables two-way communication for a variety of DA and grid management applications;
  • Establishes continuous, around-the-clock communication paths for data collection, monitoring, and control functions;
  • Supports robust, low-latency communications with devices that enable a variety of use cases, including: FLISR, DER integration, volt/var monitoring and control, transformer monitoring, capacitor bank control, and transformer/ line monitoring.

Distribution network operators face ever-increasing challenges, with higher performance targets as customers and regulators raise the bar of expectations. The multi-purpose Gridstream Connect communications network enables distribution utilities to deliver higher reliability, better customer service, and reduced operating costs while maintaining workforce safety and addressing evolving technology challenges.

System Components

Secure Data Management

Landis+Gyr’s IoT Gateway is an intelligent communications gateway software solution that provides a configurable interface between utility applications and the headend system. This creates a secure and integrated environment for managing message traffic. The IoT Gateway enables the flow of messages (both solicited and unsolicited) between RTUs/IEDs and their SCADA master stations using DNP3 over TCP/IP. The IoT Gateway contains a mapping of DNP3 and LumenIQ station addresses to radio addresses in the communications network, allowing packets from the master stations to be routed to the correct devices and vice-versa.

Intelligent Automation and Control

The multi-purpose Gridstream Connect network enables communications to DA devices, allowing distribution utilities to monitor the activity and status of field devices. These include reclosers, voltage regulators, switches, and other electronically controlled devices that are equipped with communications technology, such as the Landis+Gyr Network Integrated WAN Radio (IWR) and Network Bridge. The network features higher speed / lower latency communications, with industry leading security solutions, and offers a path to interoperability with Wi-SUN support.

The Network IWR provides serial connectivity for advanced mesh networks. Available with RF Mesh and Mesh IP protocols  for a reliable and secured network, the IWR offers individual message prioritization with DA traffic as the highest priority. Support for programming at the radio level provides near real-time monitoring and control.

The Network Bridge operates at the community level with an onboard processor, serving as a computing platform in a distributed architecture. Available with Mesh IP protocol to support DA applications, the Network Bridge also offers a cellular modem option that supports major telecom carriers globally, and is private LTE ready. In addition, with the Series 6 radio, the Bridge provides support for OFDM modulation (up to 2.4 Mbps speeds). Configurable, serviceable, and upgradeable, the Network Bridge features 2x Ethernet and 2x Serial ports.
