Landis+Gyr Launches Gridstream® Connect
A highly flexible IoT platform for expanding utility applications
ATLANTA, GA. – Jan. 23, 2018 – Landis+Gyr (LAND.SW) is announcing the launch of Gridstream Connect – a next-generation IoT platform for utility, consumer and smart city applications – at DistribuTECH 2018.
Gridstream Connect is built to seamlessly and securely integrate smart devices using a variety of communication protocols and vendors. This enables utilities to push sensor technology to the grid edge for smart community and smart home applications, while preparing for changing distribution strategies.
“Utilities have gone beyond AMI to leverage networks and data for distribution automation, demand response and consumer interactions. But the next step in developing truly smart city infrastructure is the ability to connect to sensors of every kind that can run autonomous applications,” said John Radgowski, Vice President of Portfolio Management at Landis+Gyr. “Gridstream Connect supports this new requirement as an open-source and standards-based communication system that allows compatibility with multiple vendors and an application developers hub to add future value.”
Built on an IPv6-enabled architecture, Gridstream Connect features support for multiple communication technologies – such as RF Mesh, LoRa and cellular – under a single network. This provides greater options for utilities to deploy layered intelligencewith connected computing power at the grid edge, at the community level and across the distribution system. Networked meters, sensors and devices can run applications and interface autonomously with third-party devices and software platforms to control streetlights, EV charging stations, solar invertors and environmental sensors, along with an array of distribution assets.
“Gridstream Connect is about opportunities for growth. What sets it apart is the computing power and interoperability built into each layer,” said Gary High, Senior Vice President of Product Management and Marketing. “As new technologies become available and new roles for sensors emerge, utilities will be able to leverage this technology to not only manage energy and capacity, but also expand the scope of their business.”
Landis+Gyr will be offering demonstrations and product information in booth 2323 at the DistribuTech Conference, Jan. 23-25, in San Antonio, TX.
