Landis+Gyr Commemorates 50 Years of State-of-the-Art Production in Greece

The European leadership team of the Swiss provider of integrated energy management solutions visited their largest European production facility to commemorate its 50-year anniversary in Corinth, Greece. The state-of-the-art production site for smart electricity and gas meters has an annual production capacity that exceeds 6 million units, which contributed to a strong performance in Landis+Gyr’s last financial year.

Corinth, Greece – June 15, 2022 – 2022 marks a special year for Landis+Gyr (SIX: LAND) as it commemorates its 50th anniversary of local presence in Greece. The European leadership team visited the Corinth facility to mark the occasion and host a leadership summit to address top priorities and define key initiatives for achieving the next milestones in operational excellence.

The visit follows a successful financial year for Landis+Gyr: With rollouts of 11 million electricity meters for Enedis in France, and 2.5 million for Belgian Fluvius, among others, the EMEA region contributed $590.1 million to overall Company revenues of USD 1,464.0 million with an adjusted EBITDA of $25.7 million for the region. Landis+Gyr was also recognized as AMI Company of the Year 2022 by Frost & Sullivan for offering strong value additions and technology innovations in the AMI industry. Following the announcement to become carbon neutral by 2030 for scope 1 and 2, Landis+Gyr has avoided more than 9 million tons of CO2 emissions in financial year 2021 and has joined the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) to further drive the reduction of emissions.

Landis+Gyr established its presence in Greece in 1972, and today employs more than 550 people in Corinth. After further investments in recent years, the state-of the-art production facility has over 30 automated manufacturing lines for producing smart electricity and gas meters, and an annual production capacity that exceeds 6 million units. Adhering to the highest levels of security in design and manufacturing, the Corinth facility fulfills the latest ISO standards in quality management, environmental management, occupational health and safety, and information security.

“Our mission is to help our customers navigate the accelerating energy transition – from integrating renewables and EV charging to ensuring resilience of the grid and at the grid edge”, said Bodo Zeug, Executive Vice President and Head of EMEA at Landis+Gyr. “As a result, our portfolio of energy management solutions includes Smart Metering, Grid Edge Intelligence and EV charging Smart Infrastructure. Our production facility in Corinth is particularly important in this regard as it helps us to leverage state-of-the-art manufacturing to deliver innovation at scale, not just in Europe but also for our global markets”

As Landis+Gyr’s largest production facility in Europe and second largest in the world after its Mexico plant, the Corinth facility has been taking over the manufacturing of residential and industrial meters from Zug, Switzerland, and the recently closed Stockport facility in the UK. Today, the facility produces the full range of latest residential and industrial smart meters for gas and electricity, including the recently released E360 LTE and E660, which are being sold in Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Poland, Croatia, Bosnia, Finland, and Slovenia as well as seeing increasing demand from additional utilities across the EMEA region.

“We are proud of our strong presence in Greece for half a century now”, said Aristidis Pappas, Managing Director of Landis+Gyr Greece. “The experience and know-how we have accumulated over this period enables us to deliver smart meters that support utilities and countries worldwide to upgrade their energy infrastructure and achieve their sustainable development goals.”
