Utility Confirms Smart Meter Business Case, Realizes Immediate Benefits from Remote Service Capabilities of FOCUS AX-SD


The ability to remotely connect and reconnect electric service is becoming a bigger part of the business case for deploying two-way advanced metering technology. In fact, many utilities are installing advanced meters with integrated remote service switches, such as the E350 FOCUS AX-SD, across most or all of the service territory.


 

 

Cooperative and Municipal Utilities Continue Choosing Gridstream for Advanced Metering

 

Nine cooperative and municipal utilities have selected Gridstream since April, bringing the total to 14 public power utilities who have signed contracts in 2011 to install either Gridstream PLC or RF systems.

Landis+Gyr Enables Alliant Energy’s Volt/VAR Management Project to Improve Energy Efficiency and Distribution System Performance

 


Alliant Energy Corporation has selected Landis+Gyr to help expand the utility’s existing distribution automation network for a smart grid project aimed at improving energy efficiency and system performance.

Over the next two years, Alliant Energy will install a Gridstream™ DA network to control approximately 600 capacitor banks. Using the Series 4 Gridstream IWR radios and a Volt/VAR control software application, the utility will be able to operate these capacitor banks on a system-wide level or substation-by-substation basis to conserve energy, improve power quality and optimize distribution resources.
 
 

Landis+Gyr Participates in Pecan Street Research Project

 

Pecan Street Inc., a smart grid and clean energy research and development organization headquartered at the University of Texas at Austin, recently announced plans to work with a variety of companies to test consumer products on a smart grid platform.
