RIO DE JANEIRO, April 21 2009 /PRNewswire/ — Landis+Gyr, the global leader in energy management offering utilities next generation smart grid solutions, announced today awards for customer service excellence from two of Brazil's leading utilities.

Forward-looking Brazilian utilities Light S.A. and Ampla, part of Grupo Endesa, which supply energy to the state of Rio de Janeiro, each recognized Landis+Gyr for its commitment to quality service. Utilities like Ampla and Light S.A. are leading the South American efforts to conserve energy and protect the environment by deploying large scale Advanced Metering Management (AMM) solutions for businesses and consumers.

“Landis+Gyr is extremely honored to be singled out for the work we are doing in partnership with two of Brazil’s leading utilities,” said Alvaro Dias, CEO of Landis+Gyr, South America. “We are pleased that our technology is helping millions of people in Brazil incorporate personal energy management into their daily routines and allowing people to benefit from the savings associated with conservation.”

Smart metering is expected to revolutionize energy management across the globe, with Brazil leading the way in South America. Smart metering solutions provide a two-way flow of data between customer meters and utility back-end systems. With this two-way data flow, utilities will be able to offer customers a broad array of new pricing, demand response, and energy automation options that enhance the efficiency and reliability of the electric grid. Customers will benefit from more information, expanded choices, and simpler, smarter management of their energy use. With smart metering, customers will be able to gain more value from their energy use and reduce its environmental impact.

At their recent annual supplier meeting at the Company’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Light S.A. recognized Landis+Gyr for its excellence in supplier services, quality solutions and commitment to client relations with its “Supplier Quality” award. Landis+Gyr executives Joel Durante, Ricardo Villar and Adalberto Pereira accepted the award on behalf of the Company.

During Ampla’s recent 2009 supplier meeting held in Niteroi, Landis+Gyr was presented with both the “Best Commercial Service Supplier” and “Internal Customer Satisfaction” awards.
