Landis+Gyr among the top ten European clean tech companies

Zug, Switzerland – November 24, 2010 – Landis+Gyr, the global leader in energy management solutions, has been selected as one of the world’s most promising privately held companies based on clean technologies and innovation criteria.
Landis+Gyr has been listed on the 2010 Global Cleantech 100 in recognition of its past performance in delivering smart grid products and services, as well as in recognition of its expected impact over the coming years.

Findings indicate that amongst the companies listed in 2010, energy efficiency has overtaken solar as the hottest sub-sector within clean technologies. Jon Stretch, Executive Vice President Landis+Gyr Europe, said: “We are pleased to see our long tradition of innovation and expertise recognised. This nomination encourages and inspires us all to continue working towards the 20- 20-20 goals set by the EU. To respond to global challenges and ensure an energy efficient future, we need both a modern business model and the most up-to-date technology, all of which Landis+Gyr has.”

According to the report, Landis+Gyr’s high ranking within the section entitled “engagements” – which lists international corporations known to be a stakeholder in two or more companies on the 2010 Global Cleantech 100 list, either as a customer, partner or investor – can also partly be attributed to the volume and development of its professional collaborations and partnerships with other players in the increasingly crowded smart grid space. “No one will succeed alone in this area; making the right strategic partnerships work will be a key success factor determining the winners and the losers in the shake-out that will eventually come as the race for a smart grid future runs its course over the coming years,” added the study.

This year the research company received 3,138 nominations drawn from sector specialists in 50 countries, 218 companies were presented to the expert panel for final consideration and 100 were included in the review. Only independent, for-profit, cleantech corporations that are not listed on any major stock exchange worldwide qualify for assessment.

Key Findings

  • Referring to engagements, Landis+Gyr is listed as joint equal alongside Google, IBM, PG&E and Siemens as having the highest score – 6. Cleantech describes these engagements as a stakeholding in two or more companies on the 2010 Global Cleantech 100 list as either a customer, partner or investor
  • Of the 100 companies listed, only 11 were founded prior to 2009: the oldest is Landis+Gyr, which was founded in Zug, Switzerland, in 1896. By contrast, the average founding date of the 2010 Global Cleanteach 100 companies is 2005
  • In the category of company size, Landis+Gyr once again comes out top of the list with almost 5000 employees across 30 countries. The mean number of employees in the list’s global portfolio is 112.
