Construction of the largest measurement system in Europe

"Extension of CONVERGE measurement system to the scope of activity of TAURON Dystrybucja S.A Branches in: Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Opole, Wałbrzych, Wrocław" is a project that was commenced on 1 September 2013 by TD. Its works are directed by Marcin Pastuszek from the Measurements Office.
TAURON Dystrybucja needs immediate changes in terms of measurement systems. Increasing requirements of the whole organisation concerning transfer of measurement data, shortening the time of transferring measurement data to external and internal Clients, the need for fast reporting to the Energy Regulatory Office and the Energy Market Agency involve the need for having modern stable measurement systems.
The main goal of the project is implementation of Gridstream CONVERGE measurement system in five departments of TD: Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Opole, Wałbrzych, Wrocław. The target solution (implementation is planned for 2016) will obtain data from 65,000 measuring points involving calculating 910,000 load profiles with a 15-minute-long averaging period. In addition, the project is supposed to standardise the reading process of business customers, unify and reduce the number of measurement interfaces for third-party systems, simplify IT infrastructure of AMR systems, centralise the management of measurement data, introduce one parameterisation standard of electrical power meters and data transmission devices. Ultimately, it will be the biggest measuring system not only in Poland but also in Europe.
Currently, after the end of the configuration migration process of measurement points, the Gridstream CONVERGE system operates in the production mode in all the Departments covered by the project. Gridstream CONVERGE system is a primary system measurement system executing basic business processes in terms of management of measurement data in the structures of TAURON Dystrybucja. The system carries out acquisition and processing of measurement data from the following categories of measuring units: boundary points, 110kV transformations and business customers from the following tariff groups: Axx, Bxx, C2x. Ultimately, it will cover also acquisition of data from meters installed in measuring units of MV/LV balance stations as well as auxiliary ones.
Currently, the system acquires measurement data from 21,000 metres, carries out the related VEE (validation, estimation, editing) process and then transfers, via the CBP (Central Measurement Base, Centralna Baza Pomiarowa), verified data to third-party systems e.g. Seller Change System, Balance System Determination System.
In order to define the term of electric current, it should be said that it is an arranged movement of electrical loads. In order to define CONVERGE measurement system, it should be said that it is an arranged and automatic movement of processes related to acquisition, verification and making measurement data available.

To cooperate in achieving the assumed objective, Landis+Gyr company, which is the manufacturer of Gridstream CONVERGE measurement system and a world leader in the field of measuring apparatus and AMI* and AMM ** class systems, was invited. Our cooperation lasting for nearly 14 years resulted in many interesting projects and achievements such as pioneering introduction of GPRS technology (wireless data transmission) to systems of remote data acquisition of measurement systems or mass monitoring systems of transmission of measuring units.
The expansion project of licenses of Gridstream CONVERGE measurement system is one of the most strategic and complicated projects conducted under TAURON Dystrybucja group. In the course of the works, inter alia, parallel way of "extinguishing" the present CSPR measurement system, migration and configuration of points and measurement data as well as unification of parameterisation patterns must be taken into account. Moreover, it also concerns maintaining continuity of transferring measurement data to the Balancing Market as well as not disturbing provision of services related to billing and complaints settlements.
